A 31-year-old man, Atandare Idunnu, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s court sitting at Ogba, Lagos State, for unlawfully possessing a locally-made pistol.

Idunnu appeared before Magistrate L.A Owolabi and he is facing a three-count bordering on unlawful possession of firearm.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Unuigboje Daniel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 26, 2023.

The charges read in part, “That you, Atandare Idunnu ‘M’ and others still at large on the January 26, 2023 at about 1630hrs in the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally at the railway compound behind Tejuosho Shopping Complex , Surulere area of Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: unlawful possession of firearm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

“That you, Atandare Idunnu ‘M’ and others still at large on January 26, 2023 at about 1630hrs in the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally at the railway compound behind Tejuosho Shopping Complex Surulere area of Lagos State Magisterial District did unlawfully have in your possession in a public place one locally-made pistol without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 298 (3) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

“That you, Atandare Idunnu ‘M’ and others still at large on January 26, 2023, at about 1630 hrs in the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally at the railway compound behind Tejuosho Shopping Complex, Surulere area of Lagos Magisterial District did unlawfully have in your possession in a public place a Jackknife without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 298 (2) of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

Magistrate Owolabi granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till March 6, 2023, for trial.
