A middle-aged man, Ugochukwu Nwanaji, has been remanded in the Umuahia Custodial Centre, Abia State, over murder charges.

Nwanaji was alleged to have beheaded a 65-year-old woman, Mrs Mercy Chukwu, and a 68-year-old man, Mr Moses Uyai, on September 14, 2016 and October 10, 2016, respectively.

While Chukwu was allegedly killed at Amanato Ezukwu in the Bende LGA of the state, Moses was killed at Otampa in the Isuikwuato LGA.

The prosecuting counsel from Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, Romanus Eke, pleaded that the defendant be remanded in custody.

Granting the request, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ugo Nkpa, adjourned the case till October 25, 2022.

Moses’ first son, Chibuike, said the headless body of his father had been buried.

He noted that the defendant confessed to the killing of his father after he was arrested for Chukwu’s murder.
