A Kano High Court convicted Aliyu Hussaini, and Amir Zakariyya, for Murder with maximum death sentence for stabbing a newly wed groom, Yazid Haruna with knife.
On his judgement on Tuesday, the presiding Judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu fined both Hussaini and Zakariya guilty of the three count charges of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide while convicted to death by hanging.
Earlier, the Prosecution Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 11, 2025 at Sheka Sabuwar Abuja Quarters in Kano.
According to the prosecution, the convicts at about 2.47 a.m, on the day fully armed with long knives and machete invaded the resident of the late Haruna and stabbed him to death.
“The defendants invaded the resident of Haruna with the intent of dispossessing him of properties. Incidentally, the two robbed the Haruna of his two mobile phones, and a cash sum of N19,500 after which they stabbed him in the stomach, chest, and head until Haruna bleeds to death”. Sorondinki told the court.
The prosecution presented three witnesses and tendered medical reports to prove their case against the defendant.
The defendants had however, denied committing the offence, Sorondinki insisted the offence contravene the provisions of Section 97(1), 298(c) and 221(a) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State.
In a counter argument, Counsel to the defendants Haruna Saleh-Zakariyya, presented the convicts to testify in their defence. He however sought for leniency in the face of convincing evidence against his clients.
Justice Adamu-Aliyu, who ruled in affirmative of the prosecution’s submission held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the Judge, the action of the defendants was inhuman. The robbery of phones has become rampant thereby sentence the defendants to one year imprisonment each for conspiracy, life imprisonment for robbery and death by hanging for culpable homicide.
