Man Arraigned for Stealing Generating Set, Television

A 23-year-old man, Mathew Abidemi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State for alleged theft.

Abidemi was accused of allegedly stealing a generating set valued at N120, 000 property of one Alhaji Kamal Mohammed and LG Plasma valued at N91,000 property of Adeokun Kehinde.

He was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mrs A.F Akinyemi.

He is facing three counts bordering on theft preferred against him by the police.

The police prosecutor, ASP Olaiya Babatunde, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 16, 2023.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

The charge read, “That you Matthew Abidemi and others now at large on February 17, 2023, at about 11.30am at No. 5 Arowolo Street, New Oko Oba, Abule-Egba, Lagos State in the Ikeja Magisterial District did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 and Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

“That you Matthew Abidemi and others now at large on February 20, 2023, at about 10am at the same time and place of the aforementioned magisterial district did steal one Sumec 3.8kv generator valued at N120,000 property of one Alhaji Kamal Mohammed and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.

“That you Matthew Abidemi and others now at large on February 17, 2023, at about 11.30am at No.5 Alowonle Street New Oko Oba Abule-Egba, Lagos State at the aforementioned magisterial district did steal one LG Plasma 42 inches coloured television valued at N91,000 property of Adeokun Kehinde and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Nigeria 2015.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till March 13 for mention.
