Reps Pass NYSC Trust Fund Bill For Second Reading

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a Bill to create a special trust fund for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The trust fund is to ensure the provision of a sustainable source of funding for the scheme and the training and retraining of Corps members participating in the scheme.

The fund will also ensure the development of NYSC camps and skill/entrepreneurial training centres across the country, improve the welfare of Corps members and work with all relevant ministries and agencies of government to improve Corps members human capital development.

Sponsor of the Bill, Samuel Akinfolarin, said if passed and signed into law, the Bill would have an everlasting impact on job creation and empowerment of thousands of Nigerian youths.

He said: “Since the establishment of National Youth Service Corps, the scheme has been able to carry out diligently its objectives under the National Youth Service Corps Act.

“The management of the scheme has not only trained, equipped and empowered corps members enrolled under the scheme, but has instilled patriotism and the spirit of nationalism in Corps members.

“Introducing the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund (NYSCTF) Bill will complement the activities of the scheme and further help in promoting the spirit of self-reliant and entrepreneurship among the corps members through the trust fund.”
