Petrol Queues Resurface In Abuja

Queues for petrol have resurfaced in the federal capital territory (FCT) causing anxiety and hardship for residents trying to get the product.

It is not clear why the petrol queues are back in the nation’s capital.

However, our correspondent who visited petrol stations around the metropolis Sunday morning found that some filling stations were shut to buyers.

Shafa filling station located opposite Optima fuel station, airport road Lugbe was shut. An official told our correspondent that they just exhausted their stock.

Similarly, the NIPCO filling station along the same airport road, Lugbe, was opened but an official said the station had no petrol stock.

A long queue was seen at NNPC retail outlet central business district area and Oando in Wuse Zone 1 while Saddi Kamal, Mrs oil, Dan oil and Danmarna petroleum limited, located along Lugbe airport road, were under lock Sunday morning.

When contacted, the Spokesman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mr Garba Deen Shehu assured that the matter was being urgently addressed to ensure it does not snowball into another scarcity crisis within the FCT.

“The matter is being addressed, I can assure you. I’ll get back to you later”, he told our correspondent on phone.

In April, the national assembly approved the request of President Muhammadu Buhari to earmark N4 trillion for petrol subsidy.

The lower and upper legislative chambers approved the president’s request after they revised the 2022 medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) and fiscal strategy paper (FSP).

Speaking at the time, Senate President Ahmad Lawan lamented that the country depends too much on the oil industry, adding that any change in the global economy hits the country hard.

“I also think that diversification of our economy is key because we depend so much on oil and gas and the slightest issue that affects the global economy affects us seriously in our country here,” Lawan had said.
