Nigerian Importers To Pay More As French Shipping Company Increase Charges

A French shipping company, CMA-CGM has increased local charges on all Nigerian bound cargoes, blaming the inflationary trend on its decision to jack up its rates.

In a statement issued, on Wednesday, the company said the new charges were implemented after discussions were held with the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC).

According to the statement, “Following inflationary trend in Nigeria, we want to formally inform our cherished customers that some of our local charges will be amended.

“We have, after discussion with the Nigerian Shippers Council implemented the following increment in our charges on Nigerian cargoes.

“The increment will be effective from April 20, 2022.

“For import documentation fees, all 20ft container will now pay N37,000 while all 40ft container will now pay N59,000.

“For port additional charges, 20ft containers will now pay N45,000 while 40ft containers will now pay N82,500.

“On demurrages, the first zero to five days remain free. After the fifth day, all 20ft containers will now pay N7,000 for the sixth to ten days. 11 to 15 days will attract N10,500. 16 to 21 days will pay N11,900. Any other 20ft container thereafter still uncleared after 21 days will be paying N14,000 daily.

“For 40ft containers, zero to five days also remain free. Afterwards, 6 to 10 days will pay N11,250. 11 to 15 days will pay N15,400. 16 to 21 days will pay N17,500. Any other 40ft container thereafter still uncleared after 21 days will be paying N20,300 daily.

“All other local charges for export will remain unchanged. Be rest assured that CMA-CGM will continue striving to give you the best quality service.”
