Kano TikToker, Murja Kunya, Turns To Federal High Court For Bail
Controversial Tiktoker Murja Ibrahim Kunya, has approached the Federal High Court in Kano to grant her bail.
The move comes after an Upper Shariah Court remanded and ordered that a mental evaluation be carried on her.
Previously, Justice Nasiru Saminu had denied Kunya’s bail application in a fundamental rights enforcement suit she initiated.
Kunya’s legal representative, Barrister Yusuf Ali Faragai, had filed for her bail at the Federal High Court, arguing that the alleged offense is bailable.
Faragai also pressed for information about Kunya’s whereabouts from the defendants to assess her well-being, insisting that the prosecution should produce her before the court.
The defendants named in the suit include the Kano State Attorney General, Kano Hisbah Board, and Kano State Shari’ah Court, Kwana Hudu.
However, the defense counsel, Barrister H. H. Suleiman, raised objections to the bail application, contending that it constitutes an abuse of court process since a similar application had been filed before a state high court.
In response to the arguments presented, Justice Abdullahi M Liman adjourned the case to March 28, 2024, for ruling, allowing both parties time to prepare their cases and await the court’s decision.
