It’s False 63% Anambra Teachers are Corpers – Govt

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has faulted the claim by the National Youths Service Corps that 63 per cent of teachers in the state are corps members.

Chuma-Udeh described the statement as false, challenging the NYSC to provide data to prove the claim.

The state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Blessed Iruma, said on Saturday that 63 per cent of teachers in Anambra State were corps members.

Iruma made the announcement at the 2022 Corps Employers Workshop in Awka, while urging employers in the state to prioritise the welfare of corps members by paying close attention to their safety and comfort at all times.

Speaking to our correspondent on Sunday, Chuma-Udeh said, “The claim that 63 per cent of teachers in Anambra are corps members is false. Inasmuch as corps members are posted to schools because of the dearth of industries where they will work, I don’t think that 63 per cent of teachers in Anambra are corps members. That is an erroneous assertion and I challenge her to provide data for that.

“The state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in his passion for education, ordered the employment of 5,000 teachers, who have been posted to their respective places of work. They will actually be oriented by Tuesday.”
