Invading Niger Republic With Military Will Be Tinubu’s Worst Mistake – Monday Ubani

Dr. Monday Ubani, rights activist and lawyer, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against any attempt to invade Niger Republic with military in the name of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The chairman of Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), while in a chat with our correspondent on the raging issue, said such would be the worst mistake the president would make, noting that the consequential effect would be too catastrophic for the country.

While he said that economic sanctions could be understandably noted, he posited that involving military invasion should be the last thing to be considered, even as he said that it would be a grave mistake from the president to try any such thing.

“The worst move to be made by President Tinubu in the country today is authorise any military invasion of Niger Republic.

“It will be very grave mistake that will bring untold hardship and unimaginable catastrophy to our fledging democracy and weak economy.

“Let him not try any such move. ECOWAS can impose economic sanctions rather than physical military action. It will be foolish and costly,” Ubani, former Vice President of NBA, noted.

It would be recalled that the president had sought the approval of the National Assembly for deployment of the military to force the coupists in the Nigeria Republic to hand over to the dethroned president.

However, report said the National Assembly turned down the request, washing their hands off such action, even as unconfirmed reports have it that the French Government is behind the desire of President Tinubu to deploy military in the turbo-charged country.
