[FULL LIST] 2022 NBA Elections: ECNBA Releases List Of Nominated Candidates

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, ECNBA, has released list of candidates nominated for various positions ahead of the elections of the Association.

The list signed by ECNBA Chairman Mr. Ayodele Akintunde (SAN), shows that 22 candidates both for National Office and Representative of General Council of Bar were cleared.

The candidates that have not already submitted their Curriculum Vitae, comprehensive manifesto and other campaign materials to ECNBA, were requested pursuant to Part V (7) Second Schedule of the Constitution to submit them to the ECNBA by e-mail: [email protected] not later than the 31 May 2022.

FULL LIST OF PROPERLY NOMINATED CANDIDATES 

Nomination forms were made available from Monday, 21 March – Friday, 15 April 2022. All the Nominations forms submitted were considered and screened by the ECNBA, further virtual screenings were conducted on the 9th and 10th of May, 2022. The table below sets out the names of candidates that were properly nominated for elections as National Officers and Representatives to the General Council of the Bar.

Part IV (12) (13) (14) and (15), Second Schedule of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015 (as amended in 2021) (Constitution) provides that:

“(12)  The publication, printing or distribution of any campaign material, gifts, and any form of souvenir whatsoever by a candidate or his/her supporter(s) is hereby prohibited and any candidate who contravenes this provision shall be disqualified from being voted for.

  • Any form of donations and philanthropic gestures by candidates seeking election into any national office during the election year is hereby prohibited, and any candidate who contravenes this provision shall be disqualified from being voted for in the election.
  • All Branches, Sections, and Fora are prohibited from soliciting contributions, donations or sponsorship from candidates seeking election into any national office during the election year.
  • Any form of financial inducement including paying annual practicing fees or branch dues for lawyers to curry favour from voters or for any reason whatsoever by candidates and their supporters in the election year is hereby prohibited,

and any candidate who contravenes this provision shall be disqualified from being voted from in the election. PROVIDED that any such payment of Bar Practicing Fees and branch dues by candidate for lawyers who are in his/her direct employment shall not be construed as financial inducement.

PLEASE NOTE that any candidate who contravenes the above provisions of the Constitution shall be disqualified from being voted for.
