A TOTAL of 61,446 civil servants from various government ministries, departments and agencies have so far been verified on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

This was disclosed by the Head of Service of the Federation (HoS) Folashade Yemi-Esan during the 43rd Ministerial Media Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday.

Esan added stressed that a total of 3,657 civil servants have been dragged to the Independent and Corrupt Practices and related offenses Commission (ICPC) over their failure to get verified on the platform.

According to her, at least 1,618 applicants floated illegal or fake appointment letters.

She added that 874 officers have so far been suspended from the IPPIS platform.

Yemi-Esan also noted that about N180 million is being saved every month and about N2 billion annually from the implementation of the IPPIS.

The HOS added that IPPIS can incorporate the salaries of striking university lecturers who have since rejected it for the self-programmed University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).

Acceptance of UTAS as the payment platform for university lecturers is one of ASUU’s demands in the ongoing industrial action.

However UTAS is yet to pass relevant integrity tests, according to the director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Kashifu Inuwa.
