Cybercrime: Oyo Man Jailed, Wife Bags Community Service

The Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, presided over by Justice Iyabode Yerima has convicted a couple, Aladenusi Ayodeji and Sadiat Rafiu, of cybercrime.

A statement on Monday by the Head of Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, stated that the couple were sentenced alongside six others.

Others are Kolapo Adekoya, Emmanuel Adekanmi, Berry Omokaro, Lawrence Ajayi, Samuel Babalola and Toheeb Bolaji.

All the convicts, the anti-graft agency said, pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them by the Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC.

Consequently, the prosecution counsel, Samsuddeen Bashir, reviewed the facts of the cases and urged the court to sentence them accordingly.

Justice Yerima, thereafter, sentenced Ayodeji to one-year imprisonment and his wife, Rafiu, to six months of community service.

Rafiu is said to be a nursing mother.

Also, Babalola was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment while Adekoya, Adekanmi, Omokaro, Ajayi and Bolaji were sentenced to six months of community service each.

The court ordered the convicts to restitute their victims and forfeit all items recovered from them to the Federal Government.
