Court Remands Jobless Man for Attempted Robbery

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday ordered the remand of a 32-year-old unemployed man, Abdullahi Abdulkadiri, in a Correctional Centre for alleged attempted armed robbery.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Abdulkadiri, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and attempted armed robbery.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A Akande, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction. She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions pending legal advice. She adjourned the case until February 22 for mention.

The Prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan told the court that the defendant and others at large allegedly conspired to commit the offence. Amusan alleged that he committed the offence on December 26, 2022, at about 7pm in Ogbomoso district.

He said the defendant, while armed with sticks, and cutlasses, allegedly attempted to rob  Opeyemi Adeoye of his motorcycle worth N400, 000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 6b and 2(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms laws of Nigeria, 2004.
