Constitution Review: Aisha Buhari Makes Historic Visit To Senate Chambers

The First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari is in the Senate Chambers.

Mrs Buhari’s visit to the Chambers is historical as she appears to be the first wife of a President to be received into the Senate Chambers.

She is in the Senate chambers to witness the laying of the report of the Senate Constitution Review Committee.

She was accompanied to Senate Chamber by the Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen; and the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed.

Also at the House of Representatives, she was admitted into the chamber alongside the Ministers to witness the laying of the constitution amendment bills.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila announced to the House that the First Lady was in plenary to show support for women, in certain areas of the Constitution amendment which would benefit women.

The arrival of the First Lady at the Green Chamber was also announced via Twitter on the official handle of the House of Representatives.

Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege had earlier on Tuesday announced that the Senate Committee on Constitution Amendment will lay the report of the 1999 Constitution review before the Senate on Wednesday, February 23.

The Federal lawmakers are also expected to vote on the amendments on March 1.
