A 32-year-old man has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder following a major incident on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening.

Anthony Williams, of Langford Road, Peterborough, is accused of 10 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm (ABH), and one count of possessing a bladed article in connection with the incident at Huntingdon station on November 1.

British Transport Police, on its website on Monday, said Williams has also been charged with an additional count of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article in connection with a separate incident at Pontoon Dock DLR station in east London on the same day.

He is due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court this morning ( November 3).

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said, “The criminal investigation and support for the victims is a priority for British Transport Police.”

He added: “Our investigation is also looking at other possible linked offences. Following the charges authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service I would stress the importance of not saying or publishing anything which might jeopardise or prejudice ongoing criminal proceedings, or the integrity of the investigation.”

Police have not released further details about the victims or the circumstances of the incidents but say enquiries are ongoing.

Press had earlier reported that the British police said it had launched an investigation into the mass stabbing on a London-bound train on Sunday that left 10 people wounded, including nine critically, with two people arrested.

The attack occurred on Saturday evening on the typically busy service between the town of Doncaster, in northern England, and King’s Cross station in the capital.

The incident forced the train to stop at Huntingdon station in Cambridgeshire. Police said 10 people were hospitalised, nine of whom were “believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries”.

Two suspects were arrested at the station, police said, adding that counter-terrorism units were assisting the investigation.
