Justice Ekaete F. Fabian-Obot, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, has asked the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Uyo Branch, to propose eight competent lawyers for appointment as High Court Judges.

Justice Fabian-Obot stated in a letter dated January 22nd that the National Judicial Council’s and the State Governor’s assent have been secured for the appointment of five additional judges in 2023.

On or before February 8, 2024, the Chief Judge requested that the NBA submit the nominations and justifications for each candidate. The nominations must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae.

This occurs at a time when Akwa Ibom State wants to bolster the court system by adding more judges to enable the prompt administration of justice.

In order to guarantee that only qualified and reputable attorneys are promoted to the bench, the NBA’s opinion is sought. It is required of the association to evaluate candidates using predetermined standards.

Nonetheless, the Chief Judge’s decision to consult with NBA at this early stage shows her dedication to openness in the nomination procedure.
