Xenophobic Attack On Ndigbo May Mark Disintegration Of Nigeria If…… — Umeh
A member representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh has warned that any attempt to continue to subject Ndigbo to xenophobic attack in any part of Nigeria may spell doom to the peace and unity of one Nigeria.
Umeh who spoke as a special guest of honour at the 2023 Umunri Cultural Fiesta tagged, “Oganiru Umunri” held at Enugu-Agidi Community in Njikoka Local Government Area, explained that the Igbos as the aborigines of Nigeria have the rights to reside in any party of Nigeria and do their business as guarantees by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The two-time ranking lawmaker said the practice of xenophobic attacks on Ndigbo anywhere in Nigeria would be resisted at all costs advising the elder statesman and the Federal Government to do the needful before it degenerates into a state of catastrophe.
The Lawmaker posited that neither the Igbos, Hausa, or Yoruba nation should be allowed in any interest or personal sentiment to launch an attack on any tribe who live in every corner of Nigeria doing their legitimate business and as well contribute their quota to promoting the well being of all those places they live peacefully.
He said Ndigbo as the indigenous people of Nigeria, did not migrate to Nigeria nor come from a new place outside Nigeria to become Nigerians, rather, they are the aborigines of Nigeria who have the right to reside in any part of the Country to do their business.
” Lagos State was one of those places in Nigeria the Igbos live and do their Lawful business”.
“It is also not disputable that without Igbos in Lagos State, their economy will collapse completely and become nothing because according to him the Igbos built houses in Lagos State and as well make it strong and live there happily”.
I as a representative of my people, and Ndigbo in the Senate is appealing for a symbiotic relationship between Logicians, Ndigbo the Houses, and any other tribe to do their businesses because they pay their taxes to Lagos State Government, and anybody attacking the Igbos is drawing anarchy to themselves and Nigeria at large”
“I want to also affirm and make it clear that the Igbos live everywhere across the globe and have lived peacefully even as they live in other parts of the country including Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Rivers Boronu as other tribes also live and do their Lawful business other South East Nigeria without fear or molestation”.
“Let me also add that there is no village in Nigeria the Igbos did not live and do their business and contribute to the development of those places they live by building houses and becoming part of their host Community”.
The former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was also stated that it is becoming clearer day by day that the xenophobic attack on Ndigbo in Lagos State and other parts of Nigeria is political, noting that such ugly development on Igbos in their father’s land if sustained will no doubt mark the disintegration of the Country, saying that nobody should provoke such harrowing trend in Nigeria.
He described the Igbo as peace lovers, promoters of national integration and inter-tribal relationship in Nigeria and by extension across the globe who believes in hard work.
For the organizers of the Oganiru movement in the Umueri clan, he expressed the hope that the event will bring the people together, and promote communal spirit and relationship in the area for absolute peace to reign.
Earlier the President General, Enugu-Agidi Community, Chief Ebuka Onuorah, had said that the event was aimed at bringing their people who were drawn from Anaocha, Njikoka, and Dunukofia Local Government Areas together, especially those from Enugu-Ukwu, Enugu-Agidi, Nwafia, and Agukwu -Nri Communities for better understanding of themselves, their culture and the traditions of their fore father.
