Wike Tackles Gov Bala Mohammed, Labels Him ‘Inconsistent’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, as inconsistent in his political stance.

Wike alleged that ahead of the recently concluded national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed approached him and requested that he produce the party’s National Secretary, a request he said he declined.

The FCT Minister further claimed that in 2022, the Bauchi governor had asked him to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 election, but allegedly backtracked a few days later.

Wike, who spoke while inspecting ongoing projects in Jahi and Kuje in Abuja, said such actions reflected what he described as the governor’s unstable character.

He also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work by contractors handling projects, including the bridge and road linking Jahi with Gwarimpa, the Airport Expressway to Kuje, and the Kuje to Gwagwalada road. He noted that the projects are expected to be commissioned to mark the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.

Wike dismissed allegations by Governor Mohammed that he was planted to destroy the PDP, describing the claim as “embarrassing, baseless and a product of an inconsistent mindset.”

Wike said, “It’s very embarrassing. He (Bala Mohammed) says one thing in the morning; in the afternoon, he says a different thing. But for us, we are very happy that he has told Nigerians who he is—that he’s never been stable.”

The minister also mocked Mohammed’s demand for the position of PDP National Secretary for his faction, describing him as a “conquered person” who should negotiate from a position of weakness.

“You’re already conquered; you lost. You’re talking from a weak point, and you want to demand Secretary? That is not done,” Wike said.

He added that the recent PDP convention had silenced critics who predicted the party’s collapse.

“The convention has shown that the PDP is alive and kicking. Yes, there are one or two issues, but that is normal, and we will fix them,” he said.

Wike also criticised what he described as inconsistent politicians who shift alliances, urging Nigerians to be wary of those who “say one thing today and another tomorrow.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the PDP while continuing to support President Tinubu.

“I have made it clear: I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That has always been my position since 2022. I didn’t hide. Unlike those who will say one thing in the morning and say another in the afternoon,” Wike declared.
