The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Barr. Nyesom Wike on Friday revealed plans to partner with Nasarawa State government on security and Infrastructural development.
Wike gave this revelation while playing host to Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule on Friday in Abuja.
He, however, attributed the past challenges faced by the FCT to the awarding of multiple projects without the necessary funds to execute them.
As the Minister of FCT, Wike’s promise to prioritize and allocate funds to important projects demonstrates his commitment to effective governance and the advancement of the region’s infrastructure.
However, he assured Governor Sule that he would carefully review the issues presented by the governor and determine the priority projects to be funded.
He hinted that this collaborative effort between the FCT and Nasarawa State holds great potential for infrastructure development and improved security in the region.
The commitment of both parties to work together signifies a positive step towards achieving their shared goals, he said.
He warmly welcomed Governor Sule and acknowledged him as the first democratically elected governor to visit him since his appointment.
Earlier, during the visit, Governor Sule praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Wike as Minister of FCT, expressing hope that Wike would replicate the exceptional performance he demonstrated during his two-term governorship of Rivers State, particularly in the area of infrastructure development.
He also pledged Nasarawa State’s willingness to collaborate with the FCT on collaborative infrastructure projects, highlighting the necessity for a metro train to connect the FCT from the Nasarawa State axis.
The governor also expressed hope for a joint effort between the FCT and Nasarawa State in developing a parcel of land for the establishment of a modern city along the borders of FCT and Nasarawa State.
The governor added that at the border, just about five kilometres from Maitama 11, the government has about 13,000 hectares of land at Garku-Kubusu for housing development.
He explained that it was the initiative of the previous governor of the state that was sold to the FCT for joint development.
“That is an area we sold to the FCT, that we can jointly build another Kigali and build another Dubai. We cannot do it alone, but with the help of the FCT, we can build a clean city,” the governor said.
