Tobenna Erojikwe, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE), has officially declared his intention to run for the presidency of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the upcoming elections scheduled for July 2024.

In a statement released on his social media accounts, Erojikwe expressed his conviction that the NBA must live up to its potential in championing the rule of law, protecting civil liberties, and advancing the interests of its members. He emphasised that this is the fundamental purpose of bar associations.

“On 1st March, 2024, I shared my vision for a #BuildingACourageousAndResilientBar that prioritises the needs of its members and the legal profession while standing firm against external pressures and where we will #LeaveNoLawyerBehind,” Erojikwe stated in his announcement.

He further added, “Today, I am happy to announce that I have picked up my nomination form from the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) and intend to contest for the position of President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in the July 2024 elections.”

Erojikwe acknowledged that his decision to run for the NBA presidency was not taken lightly, emphasizing his determination to work with fellow members to strengthen the association, uplift the entire legal profession, and contribute to the development of Nigeria.

“Join me on this journey as we forge ahead, united in our determination to create a Bar that truly serves the interests of its members and the nation as a whole,” he urged in his call to action.
