The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, said the lawmakers will receive the report on the ₦54.2 trillion 2025 budget estimates this week for possible passage.

Speaking during plenary, Akpabio gave the assurance that the Senate Committee on Appropriations is expected to present the report on Wednesday or Thursday.

He disclosed this while addressing lawmakers after a debate on a bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Agriculture in Abak, Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio stressed the urgency of finalising work on the 2025 budget, noting that some senators were absent from the chamber to put the finishing touches on the Appropriation Bill.

“You will observe that some of our colleagues are not in the chamber because they are working on the final details of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, which will be laid before us tomorrow (Wednesday) or the next day (Thursday),” Akpabio said.

He further underscored the need to conclude discussions promptly to allow for collective efforts in reviewing and passing the budget.

The 2025 Appropriation Bill to be submitted by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Adeola Olamilekan, is expected to undergo final consideration and passage after the committee submits its report.
