The Ebonyi State Police Command has begun an investigation over the viral video of an officer brandishing a rifle while having an altercation with someone.

The video involved an officer driving a tricycle, who during an altercation with his passengers, brandished his rifle. The incident happened on Saturday along the ever-busy Enugu-Abakaliki Road in Abakaliki, the state capital.

In a press statement on Monday, the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson Joshua Ukandu condemned the behaviour of the officer identified as Inspector Obaji Ikechukwu.

Ukandu said that the officer violated the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Nigeria Police Force. He said disciplinary actions have already been initiated against him.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi Anthonia Uche-Anya has reassured residents of the state that the command has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.

Uche-Anya added that erring officers will be held accountable for their actions.
