The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has constituted a high-powered committee to reconcile all aggrieved factions within the party and restore unity ahead of its elective national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the BoT’s emergency meeting held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in Abuja.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and signed by BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the party’s top advisory body said the committee’s immediate task is to reconcile all conflicting sides and ensure a united front as the PDP prepares for the convention.
The six-member reconciliation committee is chaired by Ambassador Hassan Adamu (North East) with Chief Mike Oghiadomhe (South South) as secretary.
Other members include Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Senator Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola (South West), and Dr Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West).
The BoT mandated the committee to submit its report by Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for further action.
While reaffirming its support for the Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the board commended the NWC, PDP Governors’ Forum, and other organs of the party for their efforts in stabilising the PDP despite recent internal tensions.
The communique reads in parts, “The BoT solidly stands with and commends the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors Forum, the National Convention Organising Committee and other critical organs of the Party for their collective roles in stabilising our Party, especially as we progress towards the conduct of the Elective National Convention scheduled to hold on the 15th and 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.
“The BoT welcomes the ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A.L. Akintola, which affirmed the Constitutional right and liberty of our Party to manage its internal affairs, including holding our 2025 Elective National Convention as scheduled.
“This landmark 4uling is victory to Democracy, Rule of Law and political development in our country.”
Expressing concern over recent internal disputes, including the invasion of the party’s national secretariat, the BoT said such incidents do not reflect the ideals of the PDP.
“As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but remains focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord,” the communiqué stated.
It added that the reconciliation effort is not a sign of weakness but “a demonstration of maturity and responsibility” as the party works to maintain unity and cohesion ahead of its national convention.
The BOT meeting came amid the renewed crisis rocking the PDP, following Monday’s dramatic takeover of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that on Monday, PDP Deputy National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, assumed office as acting national chairman.
Backed by Wike, Abdulrahman was accompanied to the Wadata Plaza headquarters by Anyanwu and a handful of loyalists.
The factional chairman vowed to reposition the party by “returning power to the people.”
In a related development, the embattled factional National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, has moved against former members of the National Working Committee, including suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
On Tuesday, Damagum wrote to INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, notifying him of the decision of the NWC to suspend Anyanwu and four others.
Damagum’s letter, dated November 1, 2025 and titled “Resolution of the National Working Committee at its 608th emergency meeting held on Saturday, November 1, 2025,” announced the suspension of the officers on grounds of anti-party activities.
