Osun CP Disbands Tactical Squad over ‘Unprofessional Conduct’
Olawale Olokode, commissioner of police in Osun, has ordered the immediate disbandment of the state’s surveillance squad over “unprofessional conduct” by the officers.
Yemisi Opalola, police spoksperson in the state, announced the development in a statement on Sunday.
Although the state police command did not list the officers involved or what the “unprofessional conduct” was about, the development comes weeks after some members of the command returned money said to have been extorted from some students.
The officers were reported to have extorted money from some students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun state, in March 2022.
According to NAN, Opalola said the disbanded members of the squad are to report to the state headquarters for redeployment.
The police spokesperson said investigation into the matter had begun, adding that the disbandment of the squad would serve as a warning to other tactical squads.
“The dissolution is with immediate effect and all personnel attached to the squad are to report to the State Headquarters for redeployment,” the statement reads.
“Investigations have commenced at the State’s Criminal Investigation Department over complaints of unprofessional conduct exhibited by personnel of the squad.”
The commissioner of police in the state urged the residents to rekindle their trust in the police, adding that the command remains committed to improving on efforts to secure Osun communities.
