NUEE General Secretary Ajaero Set to Take Over NLC from Wabba

Barring last minute change, the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Joe Ajaero, will replace Ayuba Wabba as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president.

Ajaero, a Deputy National President of NLC, is the only candidate for the position of president going into the February 7 and 8, 2023 delegates’ conference of Nigeria’s umbrella union next month.

The conference is expected to be capped with the election of national officers who will drive the affairs of the nation’s workers in the next four years.

According to a publication of the nominated contestants done in accordance with Article 29(4) of the NLC Constitution (as amended), Ajaero is the sole candidate for the office of the NLC President.

The publication was signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Credential Committee.

Those nominated for the position of Deputy National President are: Prince Adeyanju Adewale (Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria); Audu Amba (Nigeria Union of Teachers) and Kabiru Sani (Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MHWUN).

Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) President Ambali Olatunji has been nominated for National Treasurer.

Others nominated for the position of Vice President are: Benjamin Anthony (Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE); Stephen Okoro (National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers, NUCECFWW); Michael Nnachi  (National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM); and Oluwole Sunday, Nigeria Civil Service Union, NCSU).

Also, Marwan Adamu of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has been nominated for the position of Financial Secretary.
