A Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming NBA Elections, Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN, has promised to prioritise the advancement of robust environmental order and standards for Nige Delta and Nigeria if elected.

According to Gadzama who is the Chairman, Advisory Board, Association of Environmental Lawyers of Nigeria (AELN), his position is not for showmanship but an expression of his love for the environment and his resolve to tackle environmental issues through the instrumentality of law.

He noted that he would prioritise addressing environmental challenges through law if elected as President of the Bar.

He noted: “I want to restate here that my being the Head of the Advisory Board of the Association of Environmental Lawyers of Nigeria (ALEN ) is not for showmanship or fluke but my love for the environment and my resolve to tackle along, through the instrumentality of the law, with AELN members and the Bar some of these major environmental challenges facing the Niger Delta people in particular and Nigeria generally. This must be addressed under my watch as NBA President because members of the Bar are not exempted but equally affected and vulnerable to some of these environmental problems majorly caused by anthropogenic activities.”

He further promised to employ teamwork to ensure he achieves this objective, saying “If elected, we shall team up with relevant stakeholders and embark on consultations to address these common environmental issues employing the instrumentality of law and machinery of justice in Nigeria.”

He continued, “these and other issues and objectives are achievable with the support of all and sundry. I therefore count on all of you in order to realise this lofty and noble objectives.”
