#NBA Elections: ECNBA Lists Offices And Zones For The 2022 National Elections
The Election Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has issued a preliminary notice on the offices that eligible members or candidates can vie for in the forthcoming 2022 National elections.
This is pursuant to Section 9, 10 and the 2nd schedule of the constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015 (as amended in 2021.
Interested member are free to pick up the nomination form at the ECNBA Secretariat or download it online via the following platforms, NBA website: Nigerianbar.org.ng or www.ecnba.ng.

PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 9, 10 AND THE SECOND SCHEDULE OF THECONSTITUTION OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION 2015 (AS AMENDED IN 2021)
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) appointed to conduct the Election of: (a) National Officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA/Association); and (b) NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar hereby issues this Preliminary Notice of election as follows:
PART A – ELECTION OF NATIONAL OFFICERS OF THE ASSOCIATION
1. The election of National Officers of the NBA shall be conducted by electronic voting commencing from 00:00 hours to 23:59 hours on 16 July 2022.
2. The offices for which eligible members or candidates may contest on the basis of rotation among the three (3) geographical zones stipulated in Part IV (1),(2),(3),(4)&(5), Second Schedule of the Constitution of the NBA, 2015 as amended in 2021, (the Constitution), as well as the qualifications for the offices listed at Section 9(3) of the Constitution are contained in the table below:

3. The States comprised in the respective geographical zones specified in Part IV (5) (a) (b) & (c), Second Schedule of the Constitution are as follows:
a. Northern Zone: Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and Abuja;
b. Eastern Zone: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers; and
c. Western Zone: Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.
4. A candidate for any elective National Office shall be nominated or proposed in writing by a member and seconded by another, both of whom shall be qualified like the candidate in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution for the equivalent office, and shall have paid their Practicing fees and Branch dues as at when due for three (3) consecutive years inclusive of year 2022, as stipulated in Section 9(3)(a) of the Constitution.
PART B – ELECTION OF NBA REPRESENTATIVES TO THE GENERAL COUNCIL OF THE BAR
5. The election of NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar shall be conducted by electronic voting commencing from 00:00 hours to 23:59 hours on 16 July 2022.
6. Pursuant to Part V (2), Second Schedule of the Constitution, the zoning principle contained in the Constitution shall apply in the election of NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar, such that each zone shall produce not less than six (6) Representatives to the Council.
7. The States comprised in the respective geographical zones specified in Part IV (1), (5) (a) (b) and (c), Second Schedule of the Constitution are as follows:
a. Northern Zone: Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara and Abuja;
b. Eastern Zone: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers; and
c. Western Zone: Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo.
8. A candidate for election as a Representative to the General Council of the Bar shall be nominated or proposed in writing by a member, and seconded by another, both of whom shall be qualified like the candidate in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution for the equivalent office and shall have paid their Practicing fees and Branch dues as at when due for three (3) consecutive years inclusive of year 2022.
PART C – NOMINATION FORMS
9. Nomination Forms for election of National Officers of the NBA and/or election of NBA Representatives to the General Council of the Bar, shall be available for collection at the ECNBA Secretariat, 1st Floor, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abuja
Trade & Convention Centre, KM 8 Umaru Musa Yar’adua Express Way, (Airport Road), Abuja. The forms can also be downloaded online from the NBA website: www.nigerianbar.org.ng or the ECNBA website: www.ecnba.ng from 08:00 hours, Monday, 21 March 2022. Submission of completed Nomination Forms and accompanying documents shall CLOSE at 16:00 hours on Friday, 15 April 2022.
10. All duly completed Nomination Forms should be submitted physically in sealed envelopes clearly marked: ECNBA 2022 or by a reputable courier company NOT LATER THAN 16:00 hours on Friday, 15 April 2022, addressed to:

11. Any unsealed envelope will be rejected and once submitted, the forms cannot be retrieved.
12. A candidate for election may wish to send Notification of submission of the Nomination Forms to the Secretary of the ECNBA by e-mail: [email protected] upon confirmation of the handover of the hard copies to the address above.
PART D – GUIDELINES AND TIMETABLE FOR 2022 ELECTIONS
