Lottery Commission Pledges to Boost FG’s Revenue Drive
The National Lottery Regulatory Commission on Thursday said it would continue to assist the Federal Government to boost its revenue profile and close the gaps of dwindling revenue.
The organisation said it had succeeded in strengthening regulations, licensing more lottery and sports betting operators and companies.
The Director-General of the NLRC, Lanre Gbajabiamila, stated this after being conferred with the Royal Star Award by StarBet for his performances in changing the narrative of betting regulation in Nigeria.
Gbajabiamila said, “Today, they (StarBet) are at the commission to announce to Nigerians and the world that their doors are now widely open to welcome patronage from the gaming public as well as confer an award to the leadership of the commission, having recognised our modest contributions to the growth and development of our industry.
“It is therefore very crucial to once again highlight the place of the
National Lottery Regulatory Commission and the critical place it occupies as a revenue generating agency of the Federal Government. The commission is alive to its role as a critical agency in helping the Federal Government generate the much-needed
revenue to cushion the dwindling revenue profile of the government.”
Earlier, the Managing Director, StarBet, Tope Oni, used the occasion to unveil its betting brand.
He said StarBet came into the betting business in the country to give people what they truly deserve and empower the sporting youths and adults in the country.
He said, “Starbet is all about innovation, giving people what they truly deserve and we want to assure the Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission and the general public that this is our brand and promise to stick with it.”
