Lagos State University (LASU) has once again affirmed its reputation for producing outstanding graduates, as Lawal Maryam Abiodun, a brilliant alumna of the Faculty of Law (Common and Islamic Law), emerged as both the Best Graduating Female Student and the Second Overall Best Graduating Student at the Nigerian Law School’s prestigious Call to Bar ceremony held in Abuja on 10th July 2025.

Maryam achieved this remarkable feat out of a total of 7,134 students called to the Bar this session, making her not only a symbol of personal excellence but also a shining ambassador for LASU on the national stage.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello at the historic ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Kareem Olatoye, expressed immense pride in Maryam’s extraordinary accomplishment. Describing her as “a true ambassador and a shining example of the excellence we instill in our students,” he urged all current and aspiring law students at LASU to emulate her diligence, brilliance, and unwavering commitment to learning.

In her congratulatory message, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, celebrated Maryam’s success as a moment of immense pride for the entire LASU community. She praised the Dean, Professor Olatoye, and the dedicated lecturers of the Faculty of Law for their relentless efforts in moulding students into models of academic and professional excellence.

“This remarkable achievement underscores the high standards of education and mentorship at LASU. It reflects our commitment to nurturing globally competitive graduates who will stand out anywhere in the world,” she said. The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged all LASU law students to uphold the university’s enduring culture of distinction and to continually strive for academic and professional excellence.

Maryam’s dual honours serve as a testament to LASU’s rising prominence in legal education and its mission to produce graduates who excel not only in Nigeria.
