Lagos Accountant, Girlfriend Arraigned for Allegedly Stealing N35m
A 30-year-old accountant, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, who allegedly stole N35m from a medical centre where he worked and transferred the money into his girlfriend’s account, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island.
The defendant was arraigned alongside his girlfriend, Esther Lewis, 20, on two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in April 2022.
He said the incident took place around 11pm at Life Centre Medical Services on Kenneth Agbakuru Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The prosecutor told the court that the money that was stolen was the property of Life Centre Medical Services.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Aka Bashorun granted them bail in the sum of N1m each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned till December 15 for mention.
