Kuje Jailbreak: 27 Inmates Recaptured, 546 at Large
No fewer than 27 escapees from the Kuje Medium custodial centre have so far been recaptured.
Members of the Islamic States of West Africa Province had on July 5 attacked the Kuje correctional centre and freed 64 of their members and others.
Security operatives on the following day of the attack launched a manhunt for the escapees and about 443 were recaptured.
To recapture others, the Federal Government uploaded their data on the International Criminal Police Organisation database.
Also, the Nigerian Correctional Service said the names, pictures and other data of the inmates were circulated to the various security agencies.
A total of 573 escapees were declared wanted with their names, images and prison’s identity numbers.
Out of the 27 recaptured inmates, 10 were linked with terrorism; 11 were categorised as others; two sexual offenders; stealing, two; one apiece for robbery and drug.
Those linked with terrorism are; Yunusa Mukaiya with 697/11 as identification number; Abubakar Mohammed, 185/18; Abusalami Adamu, 699/11; Mohammed Guja 487/18; Hassan Hassan, 0479/18; Mustapha Umar, 184/18; Sunday Michael 1037/18;
Baluye Modu 1039/18; Suleiman Idi, 0419/18, and Mohammed Kyari, 207/18.
Those categorised as others are; Ikya Abur with ID: 0368/19, Ibrahim Mohammed, 0148/20; Mohammed Buba 0543/19 (others); Odianose Israel Oguns ID: 0011/22 (others); Dennis Chibike ID: 352/21; Yakubu Abdulmumuni 465/21;
Kasimu Murtala 207/20; Habibu Yahaya 388/22; Michael Peter 367/22; Mansur Usman 373/22 and Joseph Akpan ID: 193/22
The duo of Abdulwahab Abbas and Abdullahi Bello with 332/22 and 333/22 as their prison’s identification numbers respectively were charged with stealing.
The recaptured inmates linked with sex offences are Yusuf Kyemang 0024/20 and Mohammed Adamu 175/20.
Kayode Ajayi with the ID 355/22 held for roberry and Igbineweka Odeh 459/21for drugs were also among those recaptured.
