Keyamo Sets Up Committee To Ramp Up FAAN Revenue
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, has set up a committee to ramp up the revenue generation profile of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The minister set up the committee chaired by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, after receiving a briefing from FAAN management.
The FAAN management had consistently cried out over the 25 per cent remittance to the federation account from its internally generated revenue.
FAAN and other aviation stakeholders have consistently argued that revenue generation should be divested into expanding infrastructures in line with the Airports Council International (ACI) recommendations.
But the minister, after receiving a briefing, expressed the belief that there are several areas where FAAN can improve its revenue that are currently untapped.
Three key areas Keyamo identified are advertisements at airports, ticketing system at FAAN facilities and waiver on payment of FAAN services.
The director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of FAAN, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, who confirmed the minister’s directive in a statement said, “To this end, the Hon. Minister has directed that these sources of revenue be explored to the fullest.
“Accordingly, the HMA has set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Permanent Secretary to look at: Advertisements at the Airports; Ticketing System at the FAAN Facilities and Waivers on payment of FAAN Services.
“The committee has been given four weeks to come up with a comprehensive report and proffer solution.”
