Job Description
- We are seeking a Head of Legal to manage all legal matters related to the studio’s operations, including negotiating and drafting contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and managing litigation and intellectual property issues.
- The successful candidate will have extensive legal experience in the entertainment industry, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to manage a team.
Responsibilities
- Manage all legal affairs related to the production company’s operations, including negotiating and drafting contracts, advising on legal matters related to production, exhibition, distribution, and marketing, and managing litigation and intellectual property issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including those related to copyright, trademark, and labor laws.
- Review and negotiate co-production agreements, license agreements, and other contracts related to the production and exhibition of movies.
- Advise senior management on legal issues and provide guidance on business decisions.
- Manage the legal team, providing leadership and direction in their work.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as finance, marketing, and production, to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risk.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company’s operations.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Law
- Qualified to practice law in Nigeria as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court
- Must have 5-8 years of relevant legal experience, with significant experience in the entertainment industry, preferably in independent film production and distribution.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
- Experience managing and mentoring a legal team.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to communicate legal concepts to non-lawyers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical legal advice and solutions.
- Knowledge of entertainment law, intellectual property law and experience managing intellectual property issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for independent film and the entertainment industry.
