Funke Adekoya SAN Questions Ministry Of Finance, Police Over Rampant Sale Of Mint Naira Notes
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Funke Adekoya has raised eyebrows over the public and unhidden sale of mint currency in open spaces in Nigeria.
In recent times, mint Naira notes have been seen being peddled for sale across major public spaces in Nigeria. This is in spite of several CBN and government pronouncements on the illegality of such act.
Raising concern about the unhindered growth of the ‘illegal’ trade, Adekoya who is a Partner at one of Nigeria’s leading commercial law firm, Aelex, asked the Police and Federal Ministry of Finance if the act previously outlawed had become legal given the rampant trend.
In a tweet sighted by The Lawyer, the Learned Silk wrote:
“@PoliceNG , @FinMinNigeria,Has selling of mint currency become a legitimate activity? They even carry POS machines in case you don’t have cash to exchange/buy. They don’t hide their actions. And since no mint currency in the banks, banks are complicit!”
