Four men were, on Wednesday, arraigned before Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje sitting at the Ikeja Magistrate’s court for offences bordering on conspiracy, stealing, obtaining under false pretence, and receiving stolen property.

The defendants, Uche Onyeneke, Wudur Babagana, Dayo Adeyinka, and Patrick Okunmwendia, were accused of stealing, selling, and receiving a stolen Mercedes Benz worth N7 million.

The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, said the second and third defendants obtained the sum of N400,000 from one Enobong Idiong with the promise of repairing his vehicle.

The second defendant was however accused of unlawfully converting three wristwatches and a cabin container found in the car to personal use. The value of the property was N19.7 million

The first defendant was said to have received the stolen vehicle from the three other defendants.

The offences were said to be punishable under Sections 280, 287, 314, 328, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Kubeinje granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties must provide proof of tax payment with verified addresses.

The matter was adjourned till November 1 for trial.
