FCT Police Arrest Lawyer For Failing To Produce Sowore
The Federal Capital Territory police command on Friday arrested an Abuja-based lawyer, Abubakar Marshall of Falana and Falana’s Chambers, for the alleged absence of his client, Mr Omoyele Sowore.
It was gathered that Abubakar stood as surety for the human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Sowore following his arrest on February 24, 2022.
A former member House of Representatives, Prince Ned Nwoko through his lawyers, Trifold Law & Partners had petitioned the police accusing Sowore of criminal defamation, injurious falsehood, and publication of false news among others.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident.
She said, “We arrested his surety, Abubakar Marshall, and he was charged to court following his failure to produce the suspect. This is in line with best practices”.
Meanwhile, Sowore denied jumping bail. He accused the police of doing the bidding of the former lawmaker.
Sowore said, “We sued the police and Ned Nwoko and served them that’s why they are resorting to self-help. I was arrested on Thursday and released. How do you ‘jump bail’ and appear at the Federal High Court on Tuesday? How do I jump bail when I am restricted to Abuja?.
“The police hierarchy has sold its conscience and professionalism to a so-called Billionaire and they must deliver to conform with the amount they received to persecute us.”
