The Federal High Court, Abuja has joined the 1st Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association, John Aikpokpo-Martins and Welfare Secretary, Kunle Edun as 3rd and 4th Defendants in the action brought by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria seeking a declaration of his eligibility to contest for the Presidency of the country without resigning as Head of the Apex Bank.
Ruling on the motion for joinder filed and served on the 11th of May, 2022, by the Bar Leaders on behalf of Save Nigeria, Our Father’s land group, the Court accepted their application, agreeing that they have shown sufficient interest to be joined as parties in the suit.
On the 11th of May, 2022, The Lawyer reported that the 1st Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Welfare Secretary filed a motion for a stay of proceedings on the suit until they are joined as Co-Defendants.
In the affidavit in support of the motion, they contended that the suit by the CBN Governor is an aberration to common sense and the Nigerian constitution.
It reads in past;
“..the extant suit is an aberration to commonsense, public policy and good governance. The plaintiff is the most important public officer charged with the wellbeing of the Naira, the official currency and the largest single denominator of the economy of the country. That it is a notorious fact that the value of the Naira has been on a nose-dive under the full watch of the plaintiff resulting into a shrunk and still shrinking economy thereby subjecting Nigerians including the Applicants into economic suffocating and near strangulation.”
