A notorious telephone snatcher, one Master Promise Happy, has been jailed for three years after being found guilty of telephone snatching.

The suspect was convicted on Thursday by the Enugu North Chief Magistrates’ Court of Enugu State.

The suspect, a native of Ozonogogo in Agbor Local Government Area of Delta State, but resident at New Garriki Market, Awkunanaw, Enugu, was arrested by police operatives serving at the Central Police Station (CPS) of Enugu State Command on March 8, 2024, at about 7pm.

He was arrested at Christ Chemist Roundabout, Enugu, shortly after snatching an Android phone from a passenger in a moving mini bus, according to Enugu State Police Command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said on Friday that, “The convict had been on the police criminal watchlist for similar offences of stealing. He confessed to the crime, stating that he and his gang members at large had been perpetrating the criminal act of phone-snatching since 2022.”
