A Magistrate Court in Ojo, Lagos State has referred a case against two female lawyers alleged to have been caught fighting within the court premise to the NBA for investigation and disciplinary action.
This referral comes at the heel of an advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) after its investigation of the incident.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Simeon Uche, the said offence was committed on the 16th of March 2021 in the premises of the Court. He alleged the defendants were caught exchanging fisticuffs after verbal abuses and a series of heated exchanges over client representation.
According to him, the brawl started when both lawyers offered to represent some suspects produced at the court for prosecution.
The lawyers, Adaobi Emeka and Nkiru Nwanyawu however denied the allegations
After considering the advice of the DPP on the matter, the Magistrate, Mr Ademola Adesanya referred the case to the respective NBA branches of the lawyers as they has no case to answer before the court. Consequently, the charge against them was struck out.
