Buhari: We Won’t Allow Anybody To Destabilize Nigeria
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said no one would be allowed to destabilise Nigeria.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President urged Nigerians to resist those causing a breakdown of law and order.
‘‘We have the land, we have the resources, and we have the people.
“But I do not know why people will allow themselves to be successfully subverted to destabilise their own country,” he said.
The President spoke at an Iftar with governors, ministers and heads of government agencies.
President Buhari believes the use of technology and the Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) in the electoral process ended the era of one candidate claiming millions of votes.
He said he was a beneficiary of a free, fair and credible election, which technology and PVCs made possible.
President Buhari, who thanked the governors and ministers for honouring his invitation to break the Ramadan fast, expressed confidence that despite the current security challenges, the country will succeed.
Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, said governors were committed to development.
‘‘We, governors, ministers and heads of government agencies are equally dedicated to building a better Nigeria,’’ he said.
Noting that this year’s Holy month of Ramadan coincided with the just concluded Christian Lenten period, the Governor said it held enormous spiritual value on the benefits of renewal, sacrifice, almsgiving, forgiveness and healing for the individual as well as the nation.
The Iftar dinner was organised to host governors, ministers, heads of agencies and parastatals, and heads of security agencies.
Among those at the dinner were governors of Katsina, Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Imo, Nasarawa, Plateau, Gombe, Lagos and Osun.
The ministers of Power, Interior, Works and Housing, Industry, Trade and Investments were also at the event.
