Buhari Meets Ohaneze, Southeast Leaders Urge Him To Release Kanu

Southeast leaders have demanded the immediate release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The leaders made the plea in an address during a meeting with Buhari at the Executive Council Chambers, New Government House Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi state, which had the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in attendance.

Buhari is in Ebonyi State on a two-day working visit.

Chairman of Southeast Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Mkpuma read the address.

He said: “We plead with you to tamper Justice with mercy in the case of our son Nnamdi Kanu.”

Eze Mkpuma said the leaders have started discussion with all aggrieved groups and persons with a view to getting all of them to come to a roundtable discussion for an amicable resolution so that peace will return to the region.

The leaders commended the President for construction of second Niger Bridge, Akanu Bbiam Airport and many federal roads in the region.

He also asked for the President’s support for the southeast to produce the next president.

President Muhammadu Buhari, while responding to the to the demand on Friday, told the leaders to South-East leaders to allow the ongoing court process, bordering on charges against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the country.

The President, who has ended his two-day working visit to the State, pointed out that the determination of the court on the matter was necessary.
