The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his wife, Wasila Abdullahi, 24, to death during a dispute over the handling of food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking the Ramadan fast.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed in a statement yesterday that the incident occurred on Saturday, March 1, at about 11:30 p.m. near Government Girls College in the Fadama Mada Area of Bauchi.

Wakil explained that the incident followed a misunderstanding between Isah, a trader at the Central Market, Bauchi, and his second wife, Wasila. The dispute escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Isah allegedly struck his wife with a cane, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness.

According to the police, Wasila was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Wakil revealed that the suspect had been apprehended and that the cane allegedly used in the assault had been recovered as evidence.

The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation, while the deceased’s body has been deposited in the mortuary for an autopsy.
