Banky W Replies Samklef Over Royalty Claims On Wizkid’s Song

Record label owner and entrepreneur, Banky W, has reacted to Samklef’s claim of not being paid his royalties.

Samklef had taken to social media on Saturday to demand his unclaimed royalties with respect to ‘Superstar’, Wizkid’s debut album.

Wizkid, who signed a five-album record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), Banky W’s record label, in 2009, was said to have exited the company after the release of just two albums.

Banky W had spoken about the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner’s time at EME during a recent chat with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

In his reaction, Samklef had called out Banky W on social media over the royalties.

He said his lawyers will reach out to the ‘Strong Thing’ singer before he uses his “royalties for the election campaign.”

The 41-year-old politician had recently announced his intention to run for the Eti-Osa seat in Nigeria’s house of representatives.

But responding to Samklef’s claim, Banky W denied any involvement in the royalty split saga.

He also urged the record producer to reach out to Sony, ASCAP and BMI if he has any concerns about the album’s royalty.

“Someone should please explain to Samklef that my name is not and was not on this royalty split sheet that he is posting,” he wrote on his Instastory.

“I have never controlled it. He needs to take this up with Sony/ASCAP/BMI and his publishers, not me. I have never taken a dime off those royalties and never will.”
