Anambra Lawyer killed By Gunmen
Jude Oguejiofor, a lawyer based in Nnewi, was assassinated last week by unknown gunmen shortly after being abducted alongside his brother.
Chief Oguejiofor was the principal partner at Jude Oguejiofor & Co law firm in Nnewi. He and his brother, a medical doctor, were both kidnapped by armed criminals. While his brother was later released unharmed, Chief Oguejiofor was tragically killed by his captors.
The lawyer’s assassination has shocked the local community, where Chief Oguejiofor held the title of “Ositadinma Orsumoghu.” The area has seen frequent incidents of kidnapping and violence. Police have launched an investigation but have not yet apprehended any suspects.
Chief Jude Oguejiofor attended the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and the Nigerian Law School Abuja Campus. He had been practicing law at his Nnewi firm for over 15 years before his life was cut short last week.
Colleagues and contemporaries of Chief Oguejiofor took to social media to express condolences. The Anambra State Bar Association also released a tribute, condemning the increased lawlessness and attacks targeting legal practitioners in the region.
Oguejiofor had contested for the Ihiala Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat in the last year’s 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
Running on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket, he aimed to unseat the incumbent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) representative.
In his campaign statement titled “Ositadinma 2023,” Chief Oguejiofor presented himself as the candidate to advance equity, justice, and fairness for constituents through credible representation at the national level.
