All Lawyers Must Be In Professional Attire While Appearing Before All Cadre Of Sharia Courts — Kano Grand Kadi Directs

The Sharia Court of Appeal in Kano State has insisted that henceforth, all lawyers appearing before all the cadres of Sharia Courts must be dressed according to extant regulations.

In a circular numbered N0 4, 2021 issued on the 15th day of December, 2021 and signed by the its chief registrar, Abubakar Haruna Khalil, the court said “It is imperative for Legal Practitioners to dress appropriately in a manner that promotes respect for the Legal Profession as well as enhance the dignity of of Nigerian Courts.

“It is against this background that the Hon Grand Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Kano views with great concern, the increasing cases of improper dressing by lawyers appearing before the Court in recent times.”

The circular called the attention of all lawyers to the provisions of Rule 6 (b) of the Rules of Professional Conduct for the Legal Profession, 2007 which stipulated modes of dressing for male and female lawyer appearing before courts in the country.

The court said only the stipulated modes of dressing would be allowed in all Sharia Courts in the state, warning that “any lawyer who fails or neglects to comply may not be granted right of audience henceforth in the Sharia Court of Appeal, Upper Sharia Courts and Sharia Courts in Kano State.”
