The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for further input on the proposed  amendment of her Constitution which was last amended at the AGM 2021.

The Association will be hearing the notice for further amendment at this year’s Annual General Meeting which will hold on 25th August, 2022 at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos by 12 pm.

This was disclosed in a notice made available to The Lawyer, and signed by the Assistant General Secretary, Uche Nwadialo.

This is pursuant to the ‘Notice of Amendment to the Constitution’ of the Nigerian Bar Association [2015] as amended in 2021 dated the 11th day of June, 2022 and all other notices duly received at the NBA National Secretariat on or before the 14th day of June, 2022 in compliance with section 25[1] of the constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association [2015] as amended in 2021.

FURTHER NOTICE OF PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION [2015] AS AMENDED IN 2021

Distinguished Silks, Benchers and Colleagues,

Pursuant to the ‘Notice of Amendment to the Constitution’ of the Nigerian Bar Association [2015] as amended in 2021 dated the 11th day of June, 2022 and all other notices duly received at the NBA National Secretariat on or before the 14th day of June, 2022 in compliance with section 25[1] of the constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association [2015] as amended in 2021.

And by virtue of the combined provisions of Section 9(6)d and Section [5]f(ii) of the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association [2015] as amended in 2021 and upon the resolution of the emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee, held on Wednesday, the 27th day of July, 2022 directing me to issue this notice in furtherance of the extant provisions of the constitution.

I hereby give notice of the proposed amendments to the Nigerian Bar Association Constitution 2015, as amended and adopted at the Annual General Meeting [A.G.M] held in Port Harcourt on the 28th day of October, 2021. The proposed amended constitution (with the proposed amended provisions highlighted in red) is hereby attached for your attention.

TAKE NOTICE that the motion for the proposed amendment which seeks to further amend the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015, amended and adopted at the Annual General Meeting held in Port Harcourt on the 28th of October, 2021, shall be held on Thursday, 25th August, 2022 during the Annual General Meeting at Eko
Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos State at 12:00 noon or so soon thereafter.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that this Notice supersedes and overrides any other notice that may have been circulated earlier; and only financial members in good standing and in attendance during the Annual General Meeting shall be entitled to vote.
