The Nigerian legal community is in a state of shock and mourning following the sudden demise of Mr. Abdulhamid Mohammed, SAN, who passed away on March 19, 2024, due to a heart attack.

The news of his untimely death has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated, as he was known for his vibrant presence in the courtroom and his unwavering commitment to the legal profession.

Mr. Mohammed had appeared in court just two days prior to his passing, making his sudden death all the more shocking and heartbreaking.

Born in Gama ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Mr. Mohammed’s journey in the legal field began when he obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria between 1985 and 1990. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and embarked on a career that would see him make significant contributions to the legal landscape of Nigeria.

In 1994, Mr. Mohammed established his law firm, Messrs Hammart & Co., and went on to actively participate in numerous legal committees and associations. He served as a Member of the Litigation Committee and the ADR Committee of the International Bar Association in 2009, and held roles such as Secretary of the Financial Committee at the Abuja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association in 1995, and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee in 2010.

His dedication, hard work, and legal acumen were recognized in 2021 when he was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a testament to his outstanding contributions to the legal profession.

The late Mr. Abdulhamid Mohammed, SAN, will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs today, March 20, 2024. The Jana’iza prayer will be held at the National Mosque, Abuja, at 10:00 am.
