Police operatives attached to Oko-Odo in the Abule- Egba area of Lagos have arrested one Musa Zayanu for allegedly stabbing his colleague, Mammud to death with a knife during a heated argument.

The cause of the fight which led to the death could not easily be ascertained but a source at the Bolar site hinted that it may not be unconnected with argument over ownership of some collected iron scraps.

The source added that during the argument which degenerated to fight, the late Mammud overpowered Musa, dealt some deadly blows on him, adding that Musa struggled to free himself from the firm grip of the deceased, dashed into their make-shift tent, picked a knife, chased after Mammud and thrust it in his stomach.

Musa’s action, sources said, attracted the attention of other scrap collectors who jointly rushed to pull out the knife from Mammud’s stomach even as he bled profusely.

He was said to have given up the ghost while awaiting a vehicle to convey him to the hospital for medical attention. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident stated that when it happened, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oko-Odo quickly mobilised his men to the scene where Musa was arrested and the knife with which he committed the crime was recovered.

According to him, photographs of the deceased have been taken as evidence, while his remains have been evaluated by the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit and deposited at Mainland General hospital mortuary for autopsy.

“Investigation is on and the suspect will be charged to court in the end,” he added.
