The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Saturday pledged to work with Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, the Senator representing Funtua Senatorial District in Katsina State, to ensure the creation of new state called “Karaduwa”.
He described the creation of new states as apt, saying it would bring meaningful development for the good people of the state besides the economic prosperity attraction.
“I will work with my brother, Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, to ensure the creation of a new state in Katsina called Karaduwa. I welcome the agitation by Karaduwa people, they are agrarian and they have all it takes to have a state. The agitation is apt and germain and I am supporting them despite the fact that it’s a bit difficult but is possible,” he stated.
Jibrin spoke at the Funtua township during the official flag off of the distribution of Ramadan food items and empowerment of thousands of women and youth performed by Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund and Senator representing Katsina South Senatorial District, Katsina State.
In his remarks, the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, appealed to the beneficiaries not to sell the items given to them, urging them to continue supporting the government with prayers especially in this holly period of Ramadan.
Represented by his deputy, Hon. Faruk Jobe, the governor highlighted some of the achievements so far recorded by the state government in all sectors which he said include: education , healthcare, agriculture, security and economy.
“We spent the sum of 120 billion naira on education sector where we built 152 new secondary schools beside renovating primary schools, we sponsored 109 children of the poor, given them scholarships to study medicine, artificial intelligence and biotechnology abroad,” the governor said.
Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund, the Senator representing Katsina South Senatorial District, said he was working towards progress despite the economic situation and insecurity.
“In terms of infrastructural development, we facilitated the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Funtua which is going to take off in Funtua,” the lawmaker said.
“We played a pivotal role to ensure that the school is facilitated. Already the Katsina State Governor has committed three point five billion Naira and the project is going on. And in the 2024 budget it was not included, we fought it and it was included and in 2025 budget it was also included. A vice chancellor and the governing council was appointed.
“At the same time, they are working towards employing the people that will make the school work efficiently.
“And in this 2025 budget, in the capital component, we have about N5.7 billion which was allocated to the university and in TETFund take off grand we have N5 billion and in the normal intervention we have 2.9 billion Naira which was also appropriated.
“This is a very commendable achievement, and we are grateful to God that the university will serve as a catalyst for educational development of not only Katsina State but the Northwest and Nigeria in general because Funtua is the center of excellence that connects Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa.”
The items distributed across the 117 polling units in the 11 LGAs of the Senatorial District include: 8 trailers containing 5,439 bags of fertilizer, 4 trailers containing 3,795 bags of rice and 1 trailer containing 1,100 bags of maize powder.
Other items include: 100 tricycles, 350 motorcycles, 3,795 bags of maize, 384 sets of sewing machines, 110 sets of grinding machines, 1,650 assorted rice seedlings, 3,000 cartons of bottled water as well as 11,700 bags of table water.
The benefiting local governments are: Bakori, Musawa, Kankara, Kafur, Faskari, Matazu, Danja, Funtua, Dandume, Malumfashi and Sabuwa LGAs.
